Infographic from Just Clear Shows Fly Tipping An Unnecessary Risk in the UK

Fly-Tipping Rubbish
Nearly 100% of all citations turn to conviction for illegal dumping

The act of fly-tipping is the illegal deposit of waste on land that is in violation of Environmental Protection laws. Now, Just Clear has released an infographic explaining the effects and punishments for the act.

The phrase “fly tipping” comes from the verb 'tip', which means the throw out of a vehicle and the word 'fly' which means “on the wing” or to throw carelessly.

Currently local authorities within the UK deal with over 744,000 incidents of fly-tipping, but have seen a 9% decrease from 2010 to 2012. Nearly 66% of all fly-tips involve general household waste, while another 43% of fly-tips occurred on the highway. Many times what is thrown out is items that can fit in a small van.

According to the infographic, the estimated cleanup cost of fly-tipping was measured at 37.4 million pounds in 2012, and local authorities have carried out nearly 500,000 enforcement actions at a cost of 17.7 million pounds.

Just-Clear's infographic shows there are now just under 3,000 prosecutions that pertain to such dumping. A staggering 99.6% of all cases result in convictions, which ought deter most from acting on the impulse to dump.

Fly-tipping has seen a steady decline thanks to so many convictions for the crime. With over 1,200,000 incidents within England being lowered to under 800,000 just a half-decade later. The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 prohibits the act itself, considering it a blight upon local communities, a source of pollution, as well as a hazard to the wildlife in the area.

Vehicles pulled to the side of the highway, especially trucks or vans with a high amount of material in them, are considered suspicious. Small vans, which account for a third of all dumping, are especially noted when on the side of the freeway.

With Just-Clear's junk removal service that can clear out both houses and commercial buildings, it makes the chance of being caught fly-tipping pointless. Now, a house or building can be cleared, with the rubbage effectively removed for an affordable price.
