New Way to Light Buildings Saves Money and Energy

PEC, a demanding shopfitting company for high end retailers, has come up with a new way to reduce energy and its cost by installing sustainable light schemes both indoors and out.

According to Carbon Trust, a reliable resource for energy saving information and news, lighting buildings for retail, restaurant and hotels accounts for around a sixth of total UK electricity use. 73% is used in commercial and industrial applications, with the balance in domestic applications. On average, 25% of an organisation's electricity costs come from lighting.

PEC has been working with several proprietors in the energy savings and green technology, as well as several of their clients to help create a more sustainable way to bring in lighting and electricity to their stores.

According to Suki Panesar, PEC’s commercial director, "Estates and facilities managers with multi-storey car parks in their property portfolio could be making significant savings on their energy bills by replacing old-fashioned and expensive lighting. Poorly managed lighting systems can cost a business up to an extra 25% of energy usage.”

The energy-saving team at PEC has also installed a new customizable lighting scheme for clients for property investing and will be expanding its portfolio to several other locations, including London, France, Germany and Sweden.
