One hundred and fifty invited guests and furniture dealers packed into the High Point Market on Friday night to learn more about Natuzzi's first performance recliner, Re-vive. Aerial artists opened up the show high above the crowd, mesmerizing the onlookers with their birdlike acrobatics.
The launch itself was relaxing, dramatic and memorable, ending with an invitation to discover the product's distinctive qualities by trying out one of the chairs. In a company statement CEO of the Natuzzi Group, Pasquale Natuzzi said, "We started with a vision of comfort.”
"Recliner technology hadn't changed in the last 50 years, so we looked to nature for examples of strength, flexibility and multidimensional movement - like the tail of a lobster, the branch of a tree and the human spine. With that in mind, we designed the recliner to be able to distribute the weight of the body so it can balance in a neutral position.” Natuzzi explained.
Marketers and shortsighted critics may dismiss the introduction as a gimmick but that would be a mistake. There are more than 125 patents on the Re-vive, which was designed in collaboration with New Zealand furniture design company, Formway. The first design element of note when investigating the chair is its sleek, contemporary profile; closely followed by its distinctive movement capabilities, which soon became the topic of discussion among the furniture professionals.
This response is exactly what Natuzzi representatives expected from the Re-vive. Head designer at Formway, Kent Parker put it this way, "The human body is designed to move, Re-vive responds to your body weight and mass with fluid motion." Representatives pointed out that traditional recliners operate with lever mechanisms, while Re-vive responds in lieu of manual adjustments. The chair “intuitively responds to movement," triggered by a "gentle dynamic rocking action.”
A patented weight compensating mechanism achieves these dynamic capabilities and provides a balanced reclining motion with three natural flex movements: recline, lumbar and twist. A rock-lock lever that holds a position and a high-density core evenly distributes weight. Slide positions change between upright and recline, while the swivel base allows 360-degree movement. "The Re-vive recliner combines New Zealand innovation with Italian style to bring a completely new offering to the home furniture market,” said Natuzzi. "This is truly a new movement in comfort.”
