Preparation for a wedding can be a daunting task, especially if you have never planned one before. Wedding service companies in Japan, however, are using smartphone applications and computer software to organize the tasks leading up to the big event. Planning his wedding in November, 26-year-old office worker Koki Fukumoto has been using Wedding Chic.
Wedding Chic is a free smartphone application offered by Novarese Inc., a major wedding services company in the country. “I was surprised there are so many things that need to be done, far more than I had imagined,” Fukumoto says. “It’s too troublesome to look things up in books. This application is really helpful.”
The app automatically presents a schedule of around 170 tasks by simply entering the date of your wedding and sends you email notices as important tasks approach their deadline. Since Novarese released the Wedding Chic app two years ago, it has been downloaded around 40,000 times. Last year, Novarese released Wedo, a new computer software that connects wedding planners with couples that have reserved wedding venues with the company.
Wedo provides an advanced communication platform, which reduces the need for face-to-face meetings. “Then when the wedding planner and the couple do actually meet, they can have plenty of time to discuss the details of the wedding itself, such as how they would like to set the mood for the ceremony and how to entertain the guests,” says Keiichi Suganuma, manager of the sales planning division.
Similarly, Bridal Produce Co. makes wedding preparations fun as well as simple. Styleus, a game like software, was introduced in April by the company, which operates wedding halls in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Publisher of bridal magazine Zexy, Recruit Marketing Partners Co., also has a checklist-type smartphone app with detailed explanations for around 240 wedding preparation tasks and a scheduling program.
