The upcoming short-film follows Lamar Lee Williams, an unsung war hero who struggles to adjust to civilian life after recently being gravely wounded in action.
He’s haunted by homicidal nightmares. His negligent therapist thinks it’s PTSD, but he isn’t convinced.
His suspicions are aroused when he receives an anonymous letter claiming to know why he has nightmares. What he uncovers next will change his life forever.
San Francisco Director, Andrew Mitchell, helms a talented team of filmmakers including: Unit Production Manager, Rebecca Quinn, Producer, Joseph Daman, and Actor Michael Ha. They plan to make the next big cyberpunk action thriller short film.
Mitchell was recently interviewed by Project-Daybreak.com about the film and says the goal is to “make art…that empowers people, kind of uplifts people–in this case keeps people on the edge of their seat”. The story is a smart action-thriller with a social commentary element. Commenting on society’s disconnections and apathy towards each other.
The inspiration for the story came from “cyberpunk,” a sub genre of science fiction focusing on themes of over-saturation of technology, huge gap of the rich and poor, and over-powered corporations. “For this movie I definitely watched a lot of action movies….Blade Runner by Ridley Scott got me into the kind of sci-fi noir thriller genre….[and] Ghost in the Shell”.
The funds raised from the indiegogo campaign will go directly towards paying the cast and crew for their work, and renting high quality lights, cameras, lenses, and equipment. The funds will also go to stunts, special fx, and sound. “I’m hoping with this film…not only me, but everyone involved in the film—they can have an opportunity to showcase their talents and put their foot in the door,” Andrew says.
The film is set to cast local professional actors and begin shooting shortly after the campaign is concluded. The filmmakers plan to shoot in locations all throughout San Francisco including Chinatown, Tenderloin, and Treasure Island.
Contributors can get perks like an Mp3 from the soundtrack, a DVD, a signed poster, their name in the film’s credits, a prop, homemade caramels, a cameo in the film, and even more.
Once the film is complete the team plans to submit it into a variety of film festivals such as, San Francisco International Film Festival, The Philip K. Dick Film Festival, Slamdance; and eventually online too.
