His first major appearance on television was in 2 episodes of Sheena (2000) a short-lived fantasy series shot in Florida on the Walt Disney World property.

When he was between contracts at Walt Disney World, Gerald worked as the first African American cowboy on one of the largest cattle ranches in the country.

His first role in a feature film was in Believe (2005), came while he was earning a Digital Cinema degree in Utah. His first leading role was in The Cyclist (2012) produced by Jeff Johnson. He was also in High School Musical 2 (2007), and House of Fears (2007).
