Orlando FL – Recently Eric B. Delisle the CEO of DigiThinkIT, a local software development and security company spoke to news reporter Matt Grant on keeping consumers safe from skimmers. Skimmers are devices used to read credit card information. Identity thieves place the skimmers on or into ATM machines and steal the debit card information. Once they have the card information, they are then able to make fake cards. They typically record a pin number using a hidden camera. Altamonte Springs residents have been hit by local identity thieves using skimmers in an ATM machine.
In the interview Delisle shares how thieves use skimmers and ways people can kevep themselves safe. He says, “It is next to impossible for the average consumer to tell a machine has been compromised, the devices have become very sophisticated and very easy to buy.” According to the interview, if the card slot is protruding or there is no blinking light consumers should not use the machine. Delisle also suggests, “Use your hand to cover your other hand as you put in your pin, if they can’t get your pin the data on your card is useless.”
