Seattle, WA, USA (September 4, 2013) -- The feature length motion picture suspense thriller 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE will chronicle the real life experiences of journalist Nellie Bly, who was born during the Civil War and in a world run by men was called "the greatest reporter in America," "fearless," and, "daredevil reporter." The creators of Superman based his counterpart, reporter Lois Lane, on Nellie Bly. At 23, working for Joseph Pulitzer, she feigned mental illness to go undercover in the notorious Blackwell's Island Woman's Insane Asylum to expose atrocities, abuse rape and murder.
Director Timothy Hines and producers Susan Goforth, Donovan Le, Jesse Zesbaugh and Dr. James Lathrop, whose last movie was the critically acclaimed WAR OF THE WORLDS THE TRUE STORY, now in DVD and on demand, are accepting auditions on YouTube, which they will embed on the website, http://www.10daysinamadhouse.com.
Deadline for submission is September 27th. On October 2nd, 50 finalists will be announced and the videos displayed for the world to vote on to select the star. On October 9th the winning audition and the top ten finalists will be announced. The top 10 finalist will be guaranteed a speaking role in the movie. The movie, which is partially being financed by an Indieogogo Campaign, will be a Screen Actors Guild production under New Media rules. Non union actors are also welcome.
Nellie Bly (Elizabeth Jane Cochran) was of Irish heritage but was able to pass for Cuban. As such, the production is not concerned with race, but the actress must be able to speak English. Some Spanish would also be helpful.
"What is most important," says producer Susan Goforth, "is to find the best on camera actress who embodies, who conveys Nellie Bly's spirit and actions." Women of all races are encouraged to audition. The World wide star search will decide who will play Nellie Bly based on each actress' audition piece. The best actress will be found and star as Nellie Bly no matter what her ethnic origin.
At least 100 other roles are also being cast for the production that will begin shooting this Fall.
