In a new infograph released by Distance Learning, the loss of biodiversity and how many animals are threatened by extinction is examined. It is a great way to educate people on pollution, deforestation and poaching, and what can be done to stop it.
Unfortunately, one out of every eight bird species is threatened with extinction, and a whopping one out of four mammal species are threatened, and even more devastating is that six out of every seven marine turtle species are either endangered or close to extinction.
But Distance Learning goes a little farther than just outlining what species are extinct. They also have included facts in their infograph, including that 75 percent of agricultural crop genetic diversity has been lost, but 75 percent of the world's fisheries are being over exploited in a poor attempt to make up for the damage being done.
Climate change is a huge factor in species extinction, as some animals need certain temperatures to survive. If the world's temperature rises by more than just 3.5 degrees in celsius, 70 percent of the world's known species may face extinction.
Distance Learning also brings up the Great Potato Famine that happened in Ireland between 1845 and 1852, as it is a prime example of the importance of genetic variety and biodiversity. The famine devastated Ireland's overall population and economy, which caused one in eight Irish people to die of starvation in just three years.
If you are interested in an eco-friendly career and want to share your knowledge and expertise, visit Distance Learning to find out what degrees you can get in your own home, on your own time. In the mean time, pass along the infographic and help raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity.
