Seattle, WA, USA (September 4, 2013) -- 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE, a motion picture suspense thriller based on Nellie Bly's book is in the works and is being partly financed through a new Indiegogo Campaign by director Timothy Hines and producer's Susan Goforth, Donovan Le, Jesse Zesbaugh and Dr. James Lathrop, who's last movie was the critically acclaimed WAR OF THE WORLDS THE TRUE STORY, now in DVD and on demand.

The 36 day fundraising campaign runs to October 9th and is seeking $230,000 in addition to financing which the producers are putting up out of their own pockets.

Nellie Bly was one of the most interesting people in history. Born during the Civil War, she invented investigative journalism while working for Joseph Pulitzer, (of the Pulitzer Prize), at his "The World," newspaper. The movie 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE is based on her series of newspapers articles, later compiled into a book, about how at 23 years old, she feigned insanity to get committed to Blackwell's Island Insane Asylum in order to expose abuse, rape and murder. The asylum was notorious and rumors of atrocities were widespread when Bly fooled all the expert to get herself declared insane. Blackwell's Island Insane Asylum used inmates from the nearby penitentiary as guards, orderlies and nurses to save on budget.

Nellie Bly worked in journalism at a time when that world was all but shut off to women. She was a champion of society's most vulnerable, was called the greatest reporter in America and was known throughout her life for acts of bravery and "daredevil," reporting. She travelled around the world in 72 days to beat the imagined journey conceived by Jules Verne in his novel AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS. She was the first woman reporter on the front lines in World War I. Later in life she was an industrialist who invented and patented the 50 gallon barrel that is used by every oil company on the planet to supply oil and measure profits. Throughout her life, she gave away the money she earned to orphanages.

The movie 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE follows her first big assignment for Joseph Pulitzer in a feat unrivaled to this day in its audacity and scope and level of danger.

Director Timothy Hines explains, "Nellie Bly's story, 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE, deserves to be told properly and without cutting corners, so we went to the public fundraising platform Indiegogo to engage the world’s help in bringing her story to life."

"Her story will inspire all who see it that one person, with enough willpower, can accomplish the impossible," adds producer Susan Goforth.

"She was a champion of those who were incapable of pulling themselves up by their boot straps," concurs producer Donovan Le. "The used to commit new immigrants to the asylum because when they spoke in a foreign language, people thought they were talking gibberish and were mentally unbalanced. Among many other things, Nellie Bly exposed this horrific practice."

Director Hines sums up the Indiegogo campaign by saying, "Nelly Bly's movie needs to be made and seen by everyone. She led a life that all could aspire to. To be against Nellie Bly, you would have to be pro torture of the mentally and against orphans."
