Rafael Lovato Jr. Wins The Black Belt Absolute Division At The 2013 Brazilian Nationals Jiu-Jitsu Tournament In Sao Paulo, Brazil

We strive every day to exceed the expectations of our students.
This was an historic win as Rafael Lovato Jr. became the first non-Brazilian to win the Black Belt Absolute Division.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA, September 4, 2013, Seldom does an individual come along that makes such an impact on a sport that it makes history. Rafael Lovato Jr. is just such a man as he became the first non-Brazilian to win the Title in the Black Belt Absolute Division at the 2013 Brazilian Nationals in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He swept through five grueling matches to emerge as the winner in the most prestigious division in any tournament. The Black Belt Absolute Division combines all the weight classes among the Black Belts and matches them against each other. To walk away victorious was a special accomplishment in that the tournament took place in the Birthplace of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

This was not the first time that Rafael Lovato Jr. made history in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In 2007, Rafael  made history by becoming the first non-Brazilian to take home the title at The Brazilian Nationals in the Black Belt Weight Division. There are four major International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournaments, they are: The Europeans, The Pan-American Championships, The Brazilian Nationals, and The World Championships. Historic in and of itself is the fact that no other non-Brazilian has ever won the Black Belt Absolute at any of those events.

Rafael Lovato Jr. has followed in the footsteps of his father, Rafael Lovato Sr., and is the head instructor at their academy: Lovato’s School of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts in Oklahoma City. Rafael was very proud to announce that one of his students, Shiloh Roberts, accompanied him to The Brazilian Nationals and was victorious in his division. It was a double win for Team Lovato.

Lovato’s School of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is Oklahoma’s only fully accredited Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, with instructors that are multiple certified USBJJF and IBJJF Black Belts. Having been in operation for over 15 years, the school offers self-defense programs such as: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Submission Wrestling/Grappling/No-Gi BJJ, Judo, Wrestling, Muay Thai, Boxing, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

During a recent press-conference, a Lovato’s spokesperson had this to say: "Our goal at Lovato’s is to enhance our community and its citizens through the positive personal development that a martial arts education provides. We have touched many lives, and our strong passion for our students encourages us to strive every day to exceed their expectations."
