Hudson Robotics Announces New Article About High Throughput Screening

Springfield, NJ – Hudson Robotics, a leader in laboratory robotics instrumentation, recently released a new blog post describing the evolution of high throughput screening processes for the drug discovery industry and the benefits it provides to pharmaceutical and biomedical research.

In the past, drug discovery was a tedious process of evaluation, performed largely manually by scientists.  High throughput screening, or HTS is used to rapidly evaluate many potential compounds to understand their properties and/or performance under specific conditions.  Bioassays have been miniaturized, allowing for more samples to be evaluated in parallel. The evolution of HTS systems over the last 15 years have resulted in today's HTS systems having the capability to evaluate tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of samples per day, allowing increases in the depth and breadth of compound investigation.

Hudson Robotics' blog post discusses the components that make up an HTS system, the benefits that HTS systems provide to research processes, and the evolution of HTS systems from the past to the present. The blog post also highlights the challenges scientists face as larger throughput results in larger amounts of data to analyze.

Today, Hudson Robotics continues to support drug discovery and biomedical research through its "High Efficiency Screening" (HES). "Hudson Robotics has always been an industry leader in laboratory automation and liquid handling," notes Phillip J. Farrelly.  "We understand that high throughput screening systems require large capital investments. Our HES systems are ideal for companies or groups who don’t have the budget or resources to conduct a high-throughput screen, and also need more insight into the mechanism of interaction of lead compounds with their target than would be provided by a high-throughput screen effort."
