Chic Resumes Works with Recruiters’ “Hot Details” to Refine Job Seeker Resumes

Chic Resumes crafts professional resumes that highlight qualifications and attract positive attention from recruiters.

As many job seekers know, they have only a brief time in which to make a strong impact on recruiters and hiring managers. Their resume must come across as a professional snapshot of their abilities and experiences that will grab a recruiter’s attention. Professional resume writing company Chic Resumes knows that this also means it must have the right information in the right places.

“Your resume could contain a wealth of information, but if it is not organized and presented effectively, you may be hurting your chances of being called for an interview,” explains Amanda Clark, CEO and owner of Chic Resumes. “Essential information should be easy to locate and explain in a clear, concise, and meaningful way. Recruiters know what they’re looking for, and if they don’t see it fairly quickly, they’ll move on to the next resume.”

A recent article on ABC News takes a closer look at how recruiters handle resumes and just how much time they spend scanning these documents. While some may spend a few minutes perusing a resume, the average amount of time is surprisingly much shorter. Using “eye-tracking” software, TheLadders conducted a study to see where recruiters look when they encounter a resume. The results showed “your resume gets just 6 seconds worth of scrutiny.” “Hot” details gained the most attention, accounting for approximately 80 percent of the time a recruiter spent reviewing. But what are these “hot” spots?

Name ranked at the top. Recruiters want to know who the applicant is. The next area that garnered attention was current and previous job title and company, as well as the dates of employment. Education was the next section taken into consideration.

“This highlights the importance of keeping your resume focused and on target,” says Clark. “Remove any unnecessary information such as hobbies and references, or other details that do not strongly support your candidacy. This is not what recruiters are focusing on and it leaves more space for the important information and helps to make your resume look less cluttered.”

Including horizontal lines, bullet points, and strategic bolding can help to break up information into more easily identifiable and comprehendible sections, notes Clark. It also draws attention to essential content. The most important details – such as the summary of qualifications, core competencies, and most recent experience – should be located within the first one-third of the resume. Recent graduates can include their education at the top as well.

What shouldn’t make the cut? Headshots. The article notes that photographs do not convey anything about a person’s qualifications and can actually leave recruiters liable to discrimination issues regarding gender, age, or race. It is better to simply leave them off.

Professionals at all levels who are looking to revamp their resume and make it more appealing to recruiters are encouraged to review the resume writing services available through Chic Resumes. Through a personalized consultation and selection of format, job seekers can feel more confident that not only are the right details included, they are also presented in a way that makes a strong impression.
